Welcome!
Welcome to my language arts class!
I earned my bachelors degree in psychology from Kent State University in 1990, and then I went on to earn my Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree from Kent State University in the fall of 1994.
I worked in a number of districts as a substitute teacher in the spring of 1995. I started teaching at Hudson Middle School in the fall of 1995. I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in my time here, and I have taught every subject except social studies. A few years into my teaching career (the year 2000) I achieved my National Board Certification. At the end of my certification period, I went through the process again and achieved certification for a second time (2010), and then in 2020 I successfully renewed my certification for a third time. If you're not familiar with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, you can click HERE and see what it's all about. It's a long and challenging process, but all three of those journeys taught me invaluable lessons about myself and my teaching.
I was moved from my 8th-grade language arts position into a 6th-grade science position from 2012 until 2015, and then I returned to my English / language arts roots at the beginning of the 2015-16 school year. It's was an exciting return to the subject I love and have taught for the majority of my career. In the 2018-19 school year I was moved back to 8th grade, so I am definitely racking up the frequent flier miles within our school!
I have high expectations for my students and I expect them to give me their best effort on a daily basis. Interaction is a critical component of my classroom environment, so everyone is expected to be part of the classroom discussion. While I set high goals, I also provide scaffolding to help my students achieve those goals. The kids in my class will find me patient, approachable, and dedicated to their learning. I truly believe that students who come to my class prepared to work will reach their academic potential.
I look forward to working with all of you!
Sincerely,
Mike Fejes
